I looked at the middle finger of my right hand in shock. It was charred and when I touched it, it resembled a chunk of meat that had been cooked on the BBQ. The words, ‘The Evangelist’s Finger’ were written above it in bold black ink. I looked again and saw it begin to metamorphose. I watched with incredulity as I now saw my hand covered in a criss-cross white mesh, forming a layer of intricate webbing over my burnt skin. Dripping with oil, I held out my hand and watched the skin begin to turn pink and healthy right before my eyes. I turned to my companion in utter delight. He was a tall, dark brooding character with a long black tunic and white collar. He wore a wide brimmed black hat and I couldn’t see his face. I watched him suddenly keel over face forward. I ran towards him and pulled him onto his back. He was lying splayed on the floor. I felt such compassion for this man. I knew he was dying. His arms reached out and pulled me close. His arms were cradling me and I laid my head on his chest and wept. It was a holy, sacred moment and I knew in that instant that this was a moment of transition, of handing over the baton; it was like he was imparting something of himself into me and I was receiving his mantle.
Message: There is a change coming to how we see and do evangelism. It is going to be a return to the preaching of the word that contains real meat. The Lord is going to add spiritual weight to our words to convict and transform many.
The five- fold ministry has often been explained using the fingers of one hand. I never knew this until I typed the words ‘Evangelist’s Finger’ into Google, which is of course represented by the middle finger, the longest finger of the hand as it reaches out into the world.
Evangelism will partner with the healing ministry. The two will go hand in hand as the Holy Spirit testifies to the Word of God preached faithfully.
Evangelism is no longer to be seen as a calling for the select few. There will be a growing awareness that this is the responsibility of every believer. It will become normal for every practicing Christian to do what our great spiritual forefathers such as D.L Moody and Smith Wigglesworth have done. Evangelism is the work of the ordinary believer. Moody was a shoe salesman and Smith Wigglesworth a plumber.
There is an impartation coming if you will seek it. Study the lives of the great revivalists to increase your hunger to walk in the same anointing they carried and even greater. Ask God for the anointing and be of good courage. Your mouth must be willing and open to provide meat and not milk. Do not pander to itching ears but stay true to the word of God and the Spirit of Jesus will testify on your behalf.
Scriptures:
Hebrews 5:12-14 NIV
In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant,is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Mark 16:15-18 NIV
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signswill accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons;they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakeswith their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
2 Kings 2:9 NIV
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,”Elisha replied.
